All are welcome to worship with us: Sundays, 10:30 am in the Seventh Day Baptist Church |
Who
are we? We are a community church for people of all denominations
in the village of Alfred, NY. Our membership comes from a diverse denominational
background including Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, Lutheran, UCC, Episcopal,
and even Catholic traditions yet we emphasize and celebrate our common bond
in Christ. Our worship and structure are congregational in style and,
as we promise in our Mission Statement, our members
are committed to listening to one another's ideas and faith experiences
believing that such openness is instructive in our growth together as a
community and in our individual call to serve Christ in our lives.
We average 80-110 people in worship, a number which enables us to perform important ministries together yet allows a family feeling of close fellowship. The order of worship follows a Protestant style of liturgy with emphasis on the community of the congregation and on preaching. We also believe strongly in demonstrating our faith through the care of others and work hard to find ways of bringing our resources, our energy, and our concern to bear on the needs of the world through both our support of an extensive benevolence budget, and through the individual service of our members. Our children and youth are very important to our congregation, participating in the life of the church through our educational program, youth fellowship, worship, Bell Choir, service projects, and other programs. The phrase "a little child shall lead them" reflects the prominent place our children have in our understanding of who we are as a congregation. A full third of our adult membership volunteers to teach sessions of Sunday School, and our music program strives to be intergenerational. We worship on Sundays, at 10:30 a.m. in the Alfred Seventh Day Baptist Church, 5 Church St. in Alfred, NY. Adult Bible Study meets in the Church Center (opposite the church) at 9:00 a.m. and children's classes begin around 10:45 a.m. (Children participate in the first part of worship and leave for class after Children's Time.)
